Can you use an office Pod all year round?

A garden pod office can be a great investment, but it’s worth considering whether this type of office is right for you and your needs. If you regularly work from home and want to create your own office with a garden pod, it’s important to ascertain that you’d be able to use your office pod whenever you want to. Finding out more about what materials ready-made garden pods are produced from and how they can keep you comfortable throughout the year is helpful, especially when you must consider the inclement British weather. If you’re wondering “can you use an office pod all year round?”, read on to find out more.

Materials that keep you comfortable

The weather can be unpredictable and if you’re using a fibreglass or wooden garden pod, you might be a little more exposed to the elements than you would be in a house or office building. For this reason, Hully Pods are carefully designed and manufactured to ensure maximum comfort whatever the weather. Across every aspect of
the Pod’s design, we ensure that the materials provide the right level of insulation, so you feel comfortable, even in the depths of winter.

An insulated shell

The shell of the pod is what protects you the most from the elements and colder temperatures. We manufacture our Pods from fibreglass, which is light, strong and flexible and weatherproof. The inside of the Pod is lined with softwood and between the two layers, is a layer of bubble insulation featuring reflective foil on both sides insulating the Pod. This bubble insulation layer reflects heat in both directions, back to its source helping the heat inside your Pod stay there when it’s chilly and reflects the sun’s heat away from your Pod when the weather is at its best. The foil technology is so effective that it’s even used by NASA!

These two methods in combination provide an effective level of insulation that helps to keep the Pod comfortable all year round. Another benefit of the trapped air technology is that it reduces the spread of noise into your Pod office. This can be particularly useful if you work in a busy area and don’t want to be distracted by neighbours, traffic, or other loud noises.

Floors, doors and window

Whilst it’s vital that the shell of your Pod provides a comfortable temperature, the floors, doors, and windows of our ready-made garden Pods serve an important purpose too. These elements of the structure also help you to stay comfortable. No one likes to have cold feet, so each Pod is equipped with a thermoplastic floor that has strong
insulation properties. The flooring is also waterproof, so you don’t have to worry about leaks if there’s a sudden downpour. Another positive point about this type of flooring is that it’s made from 100% recycled materials.
Your Pod’s doors and windows play an important role in insulating the space and ensuring you’re comfortable throughout the seasons. Our Pods use A-rated double-glazed uPVC doors and windows that work
to further reduce heat loss. Of course, on particularly warm days you can always leave the windows and doors open to allow some extra airflow into the Pod to help you to stay cool.

Positioning of your garden pod

Another point to consider that can affect how much you can comfortably use your pod is where you position it within your garden or outdoor space. We encourage our customers to think carefully about how to position their Hully Pod so that they get the maximum benefits. Positioning your pod with the door and windows facing south maximises the amount of sunlight and heat that you get throughout the day.
It’s also worth remembering that temperatures in the UK can vary significantly throughout the year, and this has become more and more apparent in recent years. Therefore, it can also be sensible to ensure there’s some shade around your pod so that you stay comfortable when the weather is hotter. Placing your pod next to trees, bushes, or other types of greenery can provide added protection from the summer heat.

Will you need an additional source of heating?

There are several factors that affect whether or not an additional source of heating is necessary for your garden pod. Hully Pods offers pods in two different sizes. Customers find the heat generated from lighting, office equipment, and people are often enough to keep it warm. For all our models you might need to wish to consider an additional source of heating to stay comfortable in the winter, such as an electric oil radiator which is an efficient source of heating.
Your geographical location can also have an impact. The Isles of Scilly and nearby coastal locations in Cornwall are typically the warmest parts of the UK on average, meaning you’re less likely to need an extra heating source. On the other hand, locations such as the Yorkshire Dales or the Highlands of Scotland are typically much colder. If you’re working in an area like this, it might be worth considering some extra measures to stay warm when you’re working in your pod during the winter.

Can you use an office Pod all year round?

Thanks to the way our Pods are built and the customisation options we offer, it’s entirely possible to use your office Pod all year round. To get the best outcome, it’s important to think carefully about the type of pod that’s right for you, how you position it in your space, and whether it’s worth investing in a portable heater to keep you comfortable when the weather is at its coldest.
If you consider all these factors and take into account where you’re based in the UK, you can choose cheap garden pods that are the ideal fit for your needs, whatever the temperature is. Don’t hesitate to
