FAQs

We want you to enjoy your Hully Pod.

Hully Pods are the durable, versatile and affordable solution to your extra space needs. Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about Hully Pods to help you enjoy your Pod to the full!

You’ll need a firm, level surface of the same dimensions, or larger, as the external dimensions of the Hully Pod you have chosen.

Here are the external dimensions of your Pod, and see below for details of the access requirements for delivery of your Hully Pod.

Please note when the doors are open Skipjack’s total length is 3.7m and Dory’s total length is 1.9m.

Probably not, but you do need a firm, flat and level base for your Pod to sit on. Other Hully Pod owners have used concrete bases, gravel grids, or sleepers to create a level surface for their Pod.

The outline dimensions of the base should be the same as, or greater than, the external dimensions of your Pod.

Please contact us if you have more questions about the base prior to delivery.

Hully Pods are 2.3 metres tall and so fall under the common local planning height limit of 2.5 metres.

To be on the safe side, though, we recommend you contact your Local Authority’s planning department to satisfy yourself that you meet any local planning requirements before you order your Pod.

Hully Pods are built to order and delivered fully assembled.

We deliver your Pod to you on one of our vehicles and lift it into your property with the Sprinter’s built-in Hiab.

Please ensure that there is access to the site where you wish the Pod to be unloaded – our vehicle needs unrestricted access both into and out of the delivery site.

The delivery site needs to have a minimum access width of four metres and a height clearance of at least seven metres for safe off-loading of your Pod. Please make yourself aware of the external dimensions of the Pod you have chosen and please contact us if you have any further questions about delivery and access requirements. A short video of your delivery site – mobile phone quality is fine – is also very useful and enables us to brief your driver before delivery day. Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss this.

Yes, Hully Pods are movable.

Hully Pods are built to withstand the weather and are very low maintenance. There are some things you can do to prolong the life of your Pod, like treating the woodwork and washing the exterior with soap and water. See our maintenance guide for more details on how to care for your Hully Pod.

Yes. Hully Pods are fully insulated meaning they retain heat even during the colder months. If you are using your Pod all year round, however, you may want to use an additional form of heating too. We recommend a dry heating source, like an electric radiator, rather than a gas heating source that may create excess moisture and lead to condensation forming inside the Pod.

See our maintenance guide for more information.

There are lots of ways you can personalise your Pod to suit your lifestyle, needs, and taste! As well as opting for a bespoke colour, you can choose from a range of flooring, doors, windows and lighting options, and much more. We can suggest electric extension leads and other modifications to your Pod.

Hully Pods are built from robust, durable fibreglass which means they have an expected lifespan of 20 years or more! More than 1000 plastic bottles are recycled in every Skipjack Pod and more than 300 in every Dory Pod.

The Hully Pod warranty offers comprehensive coverage for various components. The fibreglass exterior shell and base have a 20-year warranty against water ingress due to defects. Minor streaks on the fibreglass are natural and do not indicate damage. Any significant damage must be reported upon receipt for warranty coverage. Interior wood linings have a 1-year warranty, considering natural expansion and contraction. Proper ventilation is essential to maintain wood condition. Windows and doors come with a 1-year warranty against defects and seal failures. Vinyl flooring has a 1-year warranty for ripples and bubbling but not for tears or dents. Electrical systems have a 3-year warranty for mains and a 1-year warranty for solar packs. General workmanship is covered for 1 year, with customer-guided fixes available before a technician visit. Commercial use warranties are separate due to different usage patterns. Routine maintenance includes seasonal door adjustments, annual wood staining, and regular cleaning of seals. Call-out fees for inspections and repairs start at £150, with scheduling based on availability. The warranty is non-transferable to avoid damage during relocation. More information can be found here.

Hully Pods are handmade to order. The exterior of the Pod is made from multiple layers of fibreglass- a mixture of gel and glass fibres- and is formed in a mould. Once cured, the shell is removed from the mould and your bespoke build is commenced.

Due to its handmade construction, the Pod’s outer surface may have some imperfections and a slightly rough, textured finish. These do not impact the Pod’s waterproofness or its ability to withstand the weather. In fact, many customers have expressed that this adds to the uniqueness of their Pod. We warrant our fibreglass shell for 20 years so we hope this will provide you with peace of mind. Please note due to this manufacturing process, we cannot ensure a glass-like smooth finish.

When delivered, your Pod may have some dust on the outside due to the workshop environment in which it was created and the journey it took to get to your location. The dust will wash off with the first good rain shower. If you wish to remove it sooner, just wash the Pod down with fresh water and perhaps a little washing-up liquid.

Hully uses natural softwood to line the inside and exterior arch of your Pod and tanalised decking for the step at the front. The lining and arch wood is untreated thus allowing you to decorate your Pod if you so wish. We recommended you treat and maintain the exterior decking with a suitable product such as those supplied by Osmo www.osmouk.com.
Wood, like many natural materials, is hygroscopic; it takes on moisture from the surrounding environment. Consequently, the Pod’s wood may expand in winter and contract in summer. We leave a small expansion gap between the wall slats, the internal floor and between the arch and the Pod’s decking step. Internally the
expansion gap is covered by a flexible trim. In dry conditions, you may witness a gap between the odd slat in your interior lining where the natural wood has contracted.
This does not impact the Pod’s use and the slats will expand again when the interior atmosphere becomes more humid.
The pod should be adequately ventilated for your use. If however an abnormally humid environment is created in the pod there is the chance that one or more of the wooden slats may push away from the wall. If this occurs, you should reduce the level of moisture in the pod – a dehumidifier could be used for this purpose – and once the wood has dried out it should return to its original position.

This gap is intentional. We leave a small gap to allow for the expansion of the wood in wet weather.

The interior wood lining is natural and untreated. On occasions, particularly when new and in high temperatures, you may find sap appearing on your Pod lining. This is a natural substance contained in wood. It is harmless and can easily be scraped away.

Your Pod’s uPVC door is checked as it leaves the workshop to make sure everything is correctly aligned. This is again performed during checks by our driver on delivery. Once a Pod is positioned on its base for the first time, and also if it has been moved, the Pod should be allowed to settle for a few weeks and the door adjusted if necessary. uPVC doors have multiple adjustment points in the door hinges and frame. Please watch the instruction videos in this section.

We deliver your Hully Pod with the woodwork untreated to allow you the creative freedom to paint the woodwork as you require, both for creative freedom and your use of your P od.
The exterior wood requires treatment to help preserve it. We recommend you ensure the whole of the exterior wood is treated as soon as possible after receiving your Pod and this is maintained regularly for the future. As with all exterior wood, we recommend this is performed on an annual basis however you may wish to consider more frequent treatment if your pod is situated in a particularly harsh environment such as close to the coast. We recommend UV protection oils for the exterior wood and Osmo decking products for any decking.

If your Pod has a wooden door, appropriate treatment includes all edges, top and bottom and both inside and outside of the door to protect the wood and keep the door in good condition.
Treating the woodwork of your Hully regularly will ensure your Pod remains in tip-top condition.

You should avoid condensation forming by keeping your pod adequately ventilated.
If you have a window, this can be opened or locked in a ‘just open’ position to aid ventilation.
In the colder months, when the shell of the Pod gets cold, and especially if a warm, damp atmosphere has developed during the use of the pod, condensation can form on the inside of the fibreglass shell and transfer to the wood lining. As a natural material, wood, as well as soft furnishings or other similar items, if left in a damp atmosphere can provide a place for mould to grow.
You’ll see a line of stainless steel bolts or rivets where the sides of your Pod are fixed to the base; the space between these bolts provides some ventilation. We recommend you leave these bolts free of obstructions so that air has the opportunity to circulate.
For your own health and to reduce the risk of condensation, we recommend that you maintain adequate ventilation whilst using your pod and change the air regularly.
How often will depend upon your use of the pod?
Hully Pods are insulated, but if you do wish to add extra heating we recommend using a dry electric heat source, like an electric radiator rather than gas, to reduce the production of water vapour and the risk of condensation.

Hully Pods are manufactured using molds, which means they are not customisable in size or shape. The molds are designed to produce pods of a specific size and shape, and it is not possible to change the molds to produce a different size or shape.
